Research Themes

The WiSAR Lab's primary research goal is to achieve ultra low power consumption in Wireless Sensor Networks. Wireless Sensor Networks(WSN) and particularly the emerging area of Body Area Networks(BAN) impose challenging requirements on hardware and software to achieve the desired lifetimes for certain devices such as implanted medical devices and remote sensors.  The very limited energy supply (usually from a battery) and this desire to maximise lifetime means that the hardware, software and in particular the physical layer and data link layer protocols need to be as efficient as possible.

In order to achieve this goal of ultra low power consumption, the WiSAR Lab is carrying out research in the following main areas

  • Medium Access Control
  • (Low Power) Routing Protocols
  • Low Power Measurement techniques
  • Developing Testbeds
