The recent Ideagen event hosted by Enterprise Ireland in collaboration with the WiSAR Lab in CoLab Business Centre, Letterkenny Institute of Technology featured presentations on aspects of Wireless Sensor technology and trends from Ray Speer CTO of Chipsensors, recently acquired by Silicon Labs, Peter Donnelly CEO of Biobusiness and Liam Sweeney of Enterprise Ireland.

Ray presented on "Technology Start-ups and Value Creation". This was based on his own experiences and provided a thought-provoking overview of trends in the semiconductor industry. emerging markets, ChipSensors technology and key lessons for technology start-ups, i.e. they must have

- - An experienced team with an orthogonal mix of skills
- - A growing, global market in its infancy
- - Product validation from market leaders
- - Patent protection
Peter also presented based on his experience of technology start-ups with a specific focus on the emerging markets in remote healthcare and for new medical devices. He emphasised and explained the issues involved in developing for this market, particularly on the importance of involving clinicians in an appropriate manner early in the development cycle, as well as preparing to meet FDA and other regulatory requirements. Liam presented on the opportunities that Enterprise Ireland expect to develop in the wireless sensor space such as technologies required for SmartGrid
