Successful entrepreneur returns home to address sensor technology seminar

Ray Speer, one of Donegal’s successful entrepreneurs, will speak at the upcoming Ideagen event. Enterprise Ireland is hosting an Ideagen Event on Wednesday, November 24, in Co Lab Business Centre, Letterkenny Institute of Technology, Letterkenny. The focus of the event will be on the wireless sensor technology sector. 

Ray Speer of ChipSensors, which was recently acquired by Silicon Labs will be one of the keynote speakers at the event. ChipSensors was founded in 2007 as an indigenous fabless semiconductor company, focussing on design and manufacture of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and novel CMOS sensors. ChipSensors was acquired recently by Silicon Labs, a large US based integrated chip company. Ray who is originally from Letterkenny, is currently based in Limerick, was the manager of EpiCentre in LyIT at its inception. Ray will share his thoughts on the wireless sensor sector as well as on his experience of business start-ups. 

Peter Donnelly who is currently CEO of BioBusiness Ltd and previously CTO of Bluescope Medical Technologies will also present on the night. Peter has many years’ experience in developing products for the cardio-respiratory medical device sector specifically in remote monitoring and telehealth. He holds several patents and has considerable technical and market knowledge in this area and a strong interest in developing solutions using wireless technology in medical devices. 

The event will bring together a mix of businesses, researchers and investors to network and brainstorm about the possibilities for the development and growth of a vibrant wireless sensor sector in Donegal. The event is run in collaboration with Co Lab Centre in Letterkenny Institute of Technology and specifically the WiSAR Lab Applied Research Group. www.wisar.org
